In-House Training Program
New England Canine Academy offers a 2-week personalized training program where your dog stays with us to learn basic commands and proper manners.
No more running away and not coming when called. No more jumping on the table or furniture. No more jumping on everyone they meet!!
They will walk on a leash without dragging you down the street; let go of things they shouldn't have; lay down when you tell them to; sit calmly while you open the door, get groceries from the car or chat with your neighbor. Sound like the dog you would like?
Whether it be your busy life style, stubborn dog, or just wanting to have the foundation work done correctly so you can maintain the training in a calm and positive fashion. We can help!
The In-House Training Program Includes:
- 2 weeks boarding with daily exercise
- Personalized training
- Grooming prior to pick up
- DVD of the training commands and a report of your dogs training suggestions for the future
- 1 hour lesson with your dog at pick up with a 30 minute follow up a week later to track your progress and address any questions you have.
Group and Private Classes
Courses are 5 weeks (1 hour session per week)
We offer these courses in both group and private settings.
Puppy Kindergarten
This course covers proper care and socialization of your new pup as well as an introduction to the leash and basic commands; Sit, Down, Come and Pay Attention.
Basic Obedience
We will discuss methods to solve individual problems you may be having with your dog as well as Sit, Down, Heel and Come.
Advanced Obedience
This course is designed to reinforce the Basic Obedience course demanding more correctness while dealing with distractions.
Off-Leash Obedience
Once you and your dog have completed the Advanced Obedience course, let's maintain and refine their behavior off the leash.
Classes will be offered seperately using traditional or clicker methods of training. If you want to know more about these methods and what they can offer your dog, please feel free to ask a staff member to explain the differences or see our FAQ.
Private Classes are extremely successful and can maximize results in a shorter period of time.
We can refine an extensively detailed program tailored to your expectations and lifestyle, taking into account your dogs temperament and abilities.
A frequently asked question regarding Private classes is "Will my dog miss out on the socialization of group classes?". This question is valid if this is the only socialization your dog may get. We at New England Canine Academy recommend that social activities must be done on a consistent basis by the owner, in a variety of situations largely away from the home.

Play Groups
Play groups are a good way to release your dogs energy and work on socialization skills with other dogs.
When large numbers of dogs gather, instinctual prey/hunt behavior is displayed. It generally stays at a play level, but stimulation; rough play, sounds and posturing, can escalate into aggressive behavior. To keep these outbursts manageable and fair, we have split the dogs into 2 groups; over 25 lbs and under 25 lbs and have implemented some rules regarding play.
Play Group Rules:
- Owners MUST pick up after their dog.
- Children MUST be closely supervised - NO running or screaming this can stimulate a dogs prey instincts and lead to unwanted behavior.
- Hostile behavior, dog or human, IS NOT TOLERATED.
- Handlers must be over 18 years of age.
- 2 dog limit per handler.
- Dogs must be leashed upon entering and leaving the facility - handlers must have a leash at all times.
- You may ONLY give treats to your OWN dog. Be aware of the proximity of other dogs when introducing food.
- NO TOYS ALLOWED! - Just like children, dogs don't always want to share. They can become possessive and aggressive when defending their favorite toy.
